A Before and After Home Tour

This month marks one year since I bought my first home! So, I thought writing a little "then and now" post would be a good way to celebrate my one year "house-a-versary" (that's a thing right?) I still have quite a few projects I want to complete and things aren't totally done in any room, so I'm hesitant to call this a before and after quite yet!
This house was actually the THIRD house I ever looked at when I began house hunting - and it was on my very first night actually looking at houses with my realtor. I knew I wanted a house that was a bit of a fixer upper and one I could really make my own but still livable and not totally disgusting. When I saw this house, I was hesitant to even put an offer on it because I was like "why is this house still on the market?" "I can't actually find what I'm looking for on my first day looking, can I?" But it was meant to be! The whole closing process went unexpectedly smoothly (I had heard some horror stories so I was pretty nervous) and now I love my home even more than I did on the day I got the keys!
The first big project we tackled when I moved in was refinished all of the hard wood floors in the house. I didn't realize how huge of a project that was and took us about a week to complete. But I love how the dark floors really changed the feel of the whole house! And then as you'll see, the entire house got a fresh paint job :)
Also, MAJOR credit goes to my dad for all of his help with almost every single one of my home projects. My house definitely wouldn't look like it does today without his help.

Before:

Before:

We also replaced the tile in the entryway and I painted and refinished the stairs. Unfortunately I don't have a before picture of the tile, but you can see how the stairs looked before!

After:

Now onto the kitchen! In here the walls got a fresh coat of paint, painted the cabinets and replaced the hardware (with the help of my sweet boyfriend), and my dad built an awesome breakfast nook that has become my favorite spot in the whole house! The wood floors in here are water damaged in some spots, so one of the next projects on the list is to replace the flooring in here and I can't wait!

Before:
And finally my bedroom! In here I obviously painted, and created a larger closet opening. It was so hard to get at things in the closet with a small door and the way the closet itself inside was arranged, so we fixed that! My bedroom isn't exactly how I want it yet decor-wise, but slowly working on that..

Before:
Well, there's my little home tour! A lot of hard work has gone into the past year but I'm so happy with how my home is turning out. I just tackled my largest project to date - it's not quite finished yet but I am really excited about it and can't wait to share! If you enjoyed seeing these and want me to keep sharing the projects or have any questions about what we did, drop 'em below!
Thank you!!
Your house is stunning Hillary! I love the black, white & gray color combination, it’s perfect!!
Kristin, thank you so much! The whites cabinets are Night Blooming Jasmine by Behr and the gray was custom matched at Home Depot, Behr Ultra again. The color I had them match was from one of their cabinet door samples - Greyloft by Kraftmaid.
Looks beautiful, Hillary! You put in a lot of effort and it shows! What paint colors did you use for your kitchen cabinets?
